Chinthurst is a preparatory school for boys aged 'rising 3' - 13, set in a three acre tree lined campus with playing fields at the heart of the school.

Academically the school encourages a wide range of ability yet still outperforms national standards for both State and Independent schools in Key Stage 2 examinations. Success is the norm at Common Entrance and last year 16 awards for Art, Music, Design Technology, Sport, All-round and Academic achievements were won.

The school is renowned for its family atmosphere and small classes ensuring happy pupils and individual attention.

Consideration for others is encouraged and the pupils are involved in many fund raising charity events.  Last term the spellathon raised almost £3,000 for the N.S.P.C.C. and this term's mini tough guy sponsorship hopes to raise substantial funds for the Children's Trust.

Learning support is available for pupils with special needs and we strive also to extend the more able boys through differentiation, setting and streaming as they move through the school.

Extended Day Care is available before and after school from 7.30 a.m. until 6.00 p.m.  This tends to be used by the younger boys, the older boys join pre and post school homework and extra-curricular clubs which incorporate Sport, Music, Art, Drama, Design Technology, Science, Computing, Chess.

Why boys only?

Educational research shows that girls and boys develop at very different rates and have different learning styles.

We believe that success breeds success.  Our younger boys' reward schemes are badges for good work, good behaviour and kindness.  Prizes among many others include courtesy, neatness and handwriting.  Not having to compete with girls, who develop earlier, help us to instil these values at a young age.

For the older boys our Music, Art and Drama flourish, our belief is that more boys participate in these areas than would in a co-educational setting.

We believe that boys develop naturally in our school and leave us as confident and considerate young teenagers.  We do liase closely with our neighbouring girls school and continue to increase our interaction, normally in fund-raising and musical activities
