Chinthurst School offers Headmaster's Awards to pupils with significant ability and potential. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate the potential to offer strength to the all-round life of the School, whilst offering a strong academic profile. Specific guidance on the assessed areas is as follows:

Art: The assessment will comprise an observational drawing test, a review of the candidate's portfolio and an interview with the Head of Art.

Drama: The assessment will comprise a short speech from a play of the candidate's own choice, performed 'in role' and script-free. There will also be a piece of improvisation which is unprepared and will be suggested to the candidate by the assessor.

DT: Candidates who have strong skills and problem-solving techniques should prepare a portfolio of work, which must include two or more different material types and cover a range of design problems. A discussion on this work will take place with a member of the DT department and some simple design exercises will be given.

Music: The assessment consists of an interview and an audition. Candidates, who should have attained at least Grade 3 on their main instrument (which may include voice) will be required to perform two contrasting pieces of their own choice, to read at sight and to respond to aural tests.

Sport: The assessments consist of a range of tests (co-ordination, speed and stamina) together with Skills and Team assessments in the major games (football, rugby and cricket). Specific sporting talents, details of which should be submitted with the completed Entry Form, will be tested where possible. Candidates will be expected to obtain additional references from external clubs to support their application, outlining the candidate's ability, commitment and potential.

DATE OF THE ASSESSMENT:
