Preparatory Houses
The House system places every boy in a 'house' on his arrival at the Preparatory school, each with a distinctive colour - red, yellow or blue, representing Wellington. Nelson, or Raleigh. Every few weeks House Meetings are held, led by the Housemasters, in which house or individual achievements are recorded, and boys have the opportunity to show their particular talents, such as the performing of a musical instrument.
Every term we hold House Matches in major sports, such as Soccer, rugby, cricket and swimming. The most important event is the inter-house Athletics championships, held at the end of the Summer term.
Boys are awarded house points or merits for deserving work, and every week individual scores are read out. Boys who achieve certain targets are awarded house badges or books. The weekly winning house is awarded the House Cup.
So what does the House System provide? A sense of belonging, of being part of a team, of having the opportunity to contribute in competitive structure. Why Wellington, Nelson and Raleigh? Because they are leaders - figures you can look up to, admire and emulate.
