Welcome to Preparatory
In the Preparatory School boys follow a broad curriculum, covering English, Mathematics, Science, Languages (French, Spanish/Latin), History, Geography, Religious Studies, Design Technology, Information Technology, Music, Art, Physical Education and Games.
The syllabus is designed to follow the National Curriculum, and at the same time to cover the requirements of Common Entrance and Scholarship exams, which are taken at the age of 13. From the age of nine the boys are placed into sets, based on academic ability, for Mathematics and English, and later for French and Science. Boys begin French at age seven and at age nine have the choice of studying either Latin or Spanish. Music and Art are provided for within the school timetable, as well as being available as extra-curricular clubs.
Boys are entered for Common Entrance or Scholarship exams at the age of 13, although some boys are prepared for their Senior School entry at 11. We have an excellent examination record and in recent years boys have been successful at:
Local Schools
Box Hill School; City of London Freemen's School; Epsom College; Ewell Castle School; Reed's School; Reigate Grammar School; Royal Russell School; St. John's School, Leatherhead; Trinity School; Whitgift School.
Boarding Schools
Ardingly College; Bradfield College; Charterhouse School; Cranleigh School; Eastbourne College; Eton College; Hurstpierpiont College; Lancing College; Mill Hill School; Seaford College; Tonbridge School; Winchester College.
We have gained a high number of Scholarships - Academic, Art, Music and Sport - every year.
Each boy's progress throughout the School is carefully monitored, and much individual attention is paid both to his academic and social development. There are twice-yearly exams, and boys are encouraged to achieve their best by a system of House points and Merits. We keep parents in touch with their son's progress with termly reports and three weekly 'Interim reports'; and Parents' Evenings are held twice a year. Parents are welcome to discuss any matters of concern with form and subject teachers, and much informal contact is maintained through our 'open door' policy.
It is our aim that each boy should achieve the best which he is capable. Small classes ensure that every pupil received the individual attention which he needs. A wide range of extra-curricular activities and sports helps to provide his skills and talents outside the classroom.
