Wellbeing

At Chinthurst School, wellbeing isn’t a programme we bolt on; it’s our starting point. Because children who feel safe, valued and understood don’t just cope - they flourish and achieve.

Life isn’t always straightforward. Children experience challenge, change, friendship dynamics and moments of both doubt and confidence - that’s all part of growing up. Our role is to ensure they have the tools, relationships and self-belief to navigate it all, not by shielding them, but by helping them understand themselves.

Wellbeing at Heart

We talk a lot about relationships. Because they are everything.

Relationships come first, always. They’re the foundation of confidence, resilience and growth. Our teachers are warm, nurturing and deeply invested. They notice. They listen. They make time. Sometimes that looks like a conversation at the right moment. Sometimes it’s our ‘bubble’ system - a quiet way for a child to say, “I need you” by placing a bubble on their teacher’s desk or chair. And the answer is always, “I’m here.”

We don’t just say “talk about your feelings”. We teach it.

We don’t just encourage children to talk about their feelings - we teach them how, through our whole-school Zones of Regulation approach, embedding emotional awareness into everyday life.

We build wellbeing into every day. Because it matters.

In a busy world, we create moments to pause, from our daily Mindful Minute to our calm, welcoming Wellbeing Room, where children can take what they need. And then there’s Scout, our much-loved wellbeing dog, whose quiet presence brings comfort, connection and a little bit of magic. Support is always personal and layered, led by teachers who truly know each child, alongside our Head of Pastoral Care and access to a School Counsellor or ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support  Assistant) sessions when needed.

We don’t just talk about kindness. We live it.

It’s seen in classrooms, on the playground and in the way children support one another as Peer Mentors and Mediators. We notice and celebrate it, from everyday moments to Pawesome Awards and Celebration Assemblies where children feel genuinely valued. Wellbeing is also about balance, with outdoor learning, enriching co-curricular opportunities and a strong focus on healthy lifestyles. Most importantly, we listen. Through our School Council, every child has a voice and knows they matter - helping to shape a community where children feel safe, confident, and ready to thrive.

We don’t just believe in potential. We unlock it.

The outcome is clear: children who feel safe, valued and truly understood. Children who are willing to take risks, show kindness and grow in confidence. Children who are happy - and when children are happy, they achieve amazing things.
