Academic Excellence, Powered by Heart

At Chinthurst School, academic excellence is not about pressure or simply achieving strong results. It’s about nurturing curiosity, building confidence and inspiring children to aim high. Through expert teaching, high expectations and an ambitious curriculum, we help every child develop the knowledge, skills and mindset to thrive at senior school and beyond.

Our approach combines academic rigour with genuine care, creating an environment where children feel confident to embrace challenge, think independently and develop a lifelong love of learning.

High Expectations for Every Child

We believe every child can achieve great things when given the right opportunities, encouragement and challenge.

From the earliest years, children are encouraged to take pride in their work, persevere when learning becomes difficult and develop the confidence to tackle new challenges. High expectations are embedded throughout school life, creating a culture where children are motivated to do their very best.

An Ambitious Curriculum

Academic excellence begins with a curriculum that inspires curiosity and develops deep understanding.

Children build strong foundations before progressing to more advanced concepts and increasingly sophisticated thinking. Lessons are designed to encourage questioning, creativity and problem-solving, helping children make meaningful connections across their learning.

Alongside core subjects, children benefit from specialist teaching in areas including languages, music, sport and the arts, ensuring a broad and balanced education.

Senior School Success

A defining strength of Chinthurst is the way we prepare children for a successful transition to senior school.

Throughout their time with us, children develop strong academic foundations, effective study habits and increasing independence. By Year 6, they are confident learners who are ready to embrace new challenges and take greater responsibility for their learning.

In Year 6, children take part in our Reigate Ready programme, designed to prepare them for senior school and beyond. Through enterprise projects, leadership opportunities, public speaking, collaborative challenges and real-world problem solving, children develop confidence, adaptability, resilience and critical thinking.

Having completed the Key Stage 2 curriculum at the beginning of Year 6, children move beyond it to explore elements of senior school learning, deepening their understanding and becoming familiar with the academic expectations that lie ahead. This ensures they leave Chinthurst not only ready for senior school, but already thinking and learning with greater independence and maturity.

Two Pathways, One Goal

A defining strength of Chinthurst is our dual-pathway approach, allowing families to choose the senior school route that best suits their child. As part of the Reigate Grammar School family, many children progress through the RGS Pathway, receiving early offers in Year 5 and enjoying a seamless transition to our senior schools, Reigate Grammar School or RGS Surrey Hills. Others pursue places at highly selective independent senior schools, including Epsom College, St John's School, City of London Freemen's School, Dunottar School and Woldingham School.

Supported by expert guidance throughout the process, recent cohorts have achieved:

  • 100% senior school offer rate
  • 100% first-choice destinations for six consecutive years
  • Scholarships across academic, sporting, artistic and musical disciplines
