The event gave children the chance to meet their class teachers, bond with new friends and enjoy a variety of fun, engaging activities before settling down for story time. This year, the rain brought us indoors to the school hall, but spirits remained high as the children, accompanied by their favourite teddy bears, rounded off the morning with a bear-themed picnic lunch. The relaxed setting also offered families and staff the opportunity to connect, reinforcing the sense of community that lies at the heart of Chinthurst.

The Teddy Bears' Picnic is just one part of our carefully planned transition programme. From Open Mornings, Early Years Fun Mornings and personal tours to taster sessions for all registered children, we ensure every family feels supported well before their first day. In the summer term, our ‘Meet the Teacher' events allow Reception children to spend time with their new class and teacher, while Nursery & Reception parents meet staff and one another in the evening to learn more about the year ahead. For families who would like additional reassurance, we also offer home visits to strengthen the bond between school and home from the outset.

At Chinthurst, we want our youngest children to feel safe, happy and inspired as they take their very first steps into school life.
