This Friday, our entire school community came together in a meaningful and uplifting gesture by wearing yellow to mark World Mental Health Day.

This simple yet powerful act highlights our strong commitment to supporting young people's mental health and raising awareness for YoungMinds, the UK's leading charity, supporting children and young people's mental wellbeing. The colour yellow symbolises hope, optimism, and happiness. By embracing it, we reinforce the important message that it is always okay to talk openly about mental health – and that no one has to face challenges alone.

Throughout the week, mental health has been thoughtfully woven into our school activities. In this week's assembly, we explored the unique ways our brains work and celebrated neurodiversity. The discussions focused on what good mental health looks like, the importance of supporting each other, and the daily practice of caring for our wellbeing. These sessions beautifully reinforced the essential values of understanding, inclusion and empathy that lie at the heart of our school community.

In Upper School, the children reflected on these themes by creating their own personal ‘pledges of support'. They shared their ideas of how they plan to look after their own mental health while looking out for their peers. These pledges served as a touching reminder of the power of kindness, listening, and standing together to support one another.

Every class engaged in special PSHE lessons focused on Hello Yellow, where they discovered more about the amazing work of YoungMinds and exploring practical ways to look after their mental health. The younger children brought their emotions to life through creative artwork, which sparked thoughtful conversations about recognising feelings and learning how to manage them better by understanding their emotions.

Today, Mr Cookson's Year 5 class delivered an inspiring assembly with a creative Star Wars theme. Using iconic quotes from the saga, the children connected powerful messages about mental health and resilience in a thoughtful and memorable way, clearly showing their deep understanding of the topic.

At Chinthurst, promoting mental wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to creating a caring and inclusive environment where every child feels truly values, supported and empowered to thrive both academically and personally.
