Chinthurst's School Council led a truly inspirational Entrepreneur Assembly this week. Three parents stepped forward to share their remarkable careers in geological engineering, motorsport engineering and 3D design.

The assembly forms part of the school's ongoing commitment to developing enterprise skills and broadening childrens' understanding of the world of work. Throughout the year, more parents will be invited to speak at similar assemblies, giving children continued insight into the breadth of career possibilities and the exciting potential to turn a passion or hobby into a future profession.

The assembly began with a captivating talk from Catherine, an Engineering Geologist. The children were amazed to discover that she has designed and contributed to some of the UK's most impressive infrastructure projects, including Heathrow Airport, High Speed Rail 2, London 2012 Olympic Stadium and most recently the Elizabeth Line. They learnt how tunnel boring machines carve their way underground and how spray concrete lining keeps tunnels stable and secure. Her glimpse into the hidden world beneath our feet left everyone inspired to think differently about the ground we walk on every day.

Next, we welcomed Piers, who has worked in motorsport for 20 years and is currently involved in designing the world's largest indoor track. He explained the many specialist roles within a racing team and the importance of precision engineering and safety. The children eagerly took on his challenge to identify racing flags and were thrilled to see a real go-kart in the sports hall. With help from his daughter, he demonstrated how to put on a racing helmet and climb safely into the kart.

The assembly concluded with a talk from Simon, a specialist in 3D design who uses data from live sports to create revolutionary digital experiences for fans. The children were fascinated to learn that up to 24 cameras can be positioned around a pitch to track players' exact movements, allowing iconic sporting moments to be recreated as AI-generated video. He explained that this technology makes it possible to capture angles that would never normally be achievable. His presentation highlighted how emerging technology is transforming entertainment, sparking real excitement about the future possibilities of digital design and innovation.

By the end of the morning, children and teachers alike were buzzing with excitement and eager to share what they had learnt. The assembly not only broadened the children's understanding of diverse career pathways, but it also celebrated the incredible expertise within the Chinthurst parent community.
