Year 3 shared a vibrant and imaginative Christmas assembly this morning, taking the audience on a festive journey around the world to explore how Christmas is celebrated in different countries. Using the creative concept of the Chinthurst Christmas Express, the children travelled across continents, sharing traditions and customs from a variety of cultures.

As part of their journey, the children explored Christmas in Germany, learning that it is the birthplace of the Christmas tree. They explained how families decorate real trees with candles, baubles and stars - a tradition that began hundreds of years ago and shared the custom of children leaving boots outside on 6 December for St Nicholas to fill with sweet treats.

The journey concluded back at home in the United Kingdom, where the children highlighted familiar festive traditions including decorating trees, hanging stockings and pulling Christmas crackers at the dinner table. With plenty of humour, they shared the joy of wearing paper hats, telling terrible jokes and laughing together, reminding the audience that in the UK, Christmas is centred on family, gratitude and love.

Alongside learning about global traditions, the children reflected thoughtfully on what Christmas truly means. They spoke about cherishing special moments - laughing together, pulling crackers, sharing jokes and creating smiles - and how these simple joys bring happiness to us all. The assembly also highlighted that at Chinthurst, the spirit of Christmas is celebrated every day through kindness, respect and friendship, gifts that can be shared all year round.

The assembly concluded with a reflective prayer and a joyful festive message. Year 3 should be extremely proud of a performance that beautifully combined creativity, confidence and the strong values at the heart of life at Chinthurst.
