Year 3 were transported back over a thousand years as they took part in a fully immersive Anglo-Saxon experience day. The Lower School Hall was transformed into a gateway to the past, where children and staff, dressed in period-style costumes, stepped away from the modern world and into early medieval Britain.

The day was led by a specialist instructor who guided the children through a series of lively workshops designed to bring Anglo-Saxon life to life. The children explored how people lived, communicated and defended their communities, gaining a rich insight into daily life during the period.

A range of interactive activities kept enthusiasm high throughout the day. The children played traditional games, practised elements of Old English speech and learned how Anglo-Saxon warriors trained through battle marching and spear wrestling. These physical activities helped them understand the discipline and skills required in early combat.

One of the highlights was the opportunity to handle authentic-style artefacts, including animal skins, weapons, coins and shackles. Examining the tools and equipment up close allowed the children to connect more deeply with history and sparked thoughtful questions and discussions.

The children approached every activity with energy and curiosity, fully embracing the experience. By the end of the day, they had not only enjoyed a memorable adventure but had also developed a stronger understanding of the Anglo-Saxon period and its importance in British history.
