To celebrate World Book Day, Chinthurst transformed into a magical storybook scene, with children and staff donning costumes inspired by their favourite literary characters. Opening the day with a dazzling fancy dress parade on the Lower School Playground, the whole school community showed their imagination and creative flair. Julia Donaldson’s enchanting characters came to life, Harry Potter and Matilda were spotted among the crowd.

Our teachers embraced the spirit of the day too! Miss Trundle, Scout and Mrs Winchester dressed as the Three Bears, while Mr Hornsby was a brilliant Goldilocks. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made an apperance adding even more storybook magic to the playground. Mr Foster and Mr McWilliams brought the rainforest to life as The Kapok Tree. Year 6 teachers, Mr Beadle and Miss Gilmore, stepped into the roles of Tweedle B and Tweedle G. As each class took their turn to parade, the children exchanged high-fives and beamed with excitement, creating a wonderful atmosphere of camaraderie and a shared love of reading.

Classrooms buzzed with World Book Day-inspired activities. Year 3 incorporated their favourite books into their maths lesson, counting letter frequency and then turning the results into pie charts. A small group from Year 6 walked down to Tadworth Grove Residential Home to read to the residents. They took their favourite books and spent time sharing stories together.

To round off the celebrations, a World Book Day-inspired lunch was served, complete with delicious butterbeer cakes. World Book Day was a truly magical experience, reinforcing the joy of storytelling and the endless adventures that books offer.
