Last week, Years 5 and 6 had the privilege of welcoming three students from Reigate Grammar School for a powerful and thought-provoking session on neurodiversity.

The visiting students spoke openly and honestly about their own experiences of being neurodivergent, offering valuable insight into how they learn, think, and experience the world. Through their personal stories, they helped to deepen children’s understanding of conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, while emphasising that neurodiversity is not a limitation but a difference that should be recognised and celebrated.

Each speaker shared what school life is like for them and the strategies they use to succeed. They spoke about moments where they may have felt misunderstood, as well as the importance of self-advocacy and resilience. Crucially, they also highlighted the positive impact of supportive teachers, inclusive environments, and strong friendships, demonstrating how the right support can help every individual thrive.

This visit formed part of the school’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusion, understanding, and kindness. By encouraging open conversations around neurodiversity, the session helped to challenge misconceptions and foster a culture where differences are valued and respected.

We are incredibly grateful to the RGS students for sharing their experiences so candidly and for empowering our children with such an important message: that everyone learns differently, and that these differences are something to be embraced.
