Reception enjoyed a wonderful visit on Wednesday as four students from Reigate Grammar School visited to share the stories they had written and illustrated after winning their House Storybook Competition.

Each student read their original story aloud, captivating the children with imaginative characters, thoughtful messages and beautifully illustrated adventures.

The first story, representing Bird House, told the heartwarming tale of a penguin searching for where he truly belonged. Through his journey, the children explored themes of individuality, confidence and remaining true to yourself, even when feeling different from others.

Next came Sounds of Skarrat from Cranston House, a lively and entertaining rock star adventure inspired by a teacher from RGS.

Williamson House then shared The Bear Far From Home, a touching story about family, care and finding people who make us feel safe and loved. It had a gentle message about belonging and kindness.

Finally, Hodgson House introduced Oscar the Octopus, a charming tale about an octopus with seven legs who befriended another octopus with nine legs. Together, they discovered the importance of friendship, acceptance and surrounding themselves with people who help us feel happy and valued.

After listening to all four stories, the Reception children voted for their favourite story, choosing The Bear Far From Home from Williamson House as the overall winner.

The visit concluded with the children working in small groups alongside the RGS students, where Reception read their own stories aloud, creating a lovely opportunity to share creativity, build confidence and celebrate storytelling together.
