Mrs Burton led a thought-provoking assembly this week, encouraging the children to think about the importance of co-operation and respect and how much more we can achieve when we work together.
During the assembly, Mrs Burton shared a fascinating video showing how penguins survive some of the coldest and harshest conditions. When temperatures plummet, the penguins gather closely together in a large huddle to keep warm. Rather than remaining still, they take tiny steps which gradually move the whole huddle, allowing every penguin to take a turn in the warmer centre before moving towards the colder outside.
It was a wonderful example of teamwork in action. By co-operating, taking turns and looking out for one another, the penguins can withstand conditions that would be much more difficult to face alone. Their behaviour provided a powerful reminder that we are stronger when we work together.
Mrs Burton then invited the children to think about how they can demonstrate co-operation and respect in their own school day. The children offered some excellent suggestions, including working together during sports lessons, showing kindness and consideration at playtime, taking turns, listening to one another and helping their classmates.
It was a powerful assembly that left the children reflecting on their own actions and with an important message to carry with them: when we respect, support and co-operating with one another, we are stronger together.
