Trip Year 3 to 6

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day of discovery at the Observatory Science Centre. With so much to see, try and investigate, the visit was a wonderful opportunity to bring science, physics and astronomy to life beyond the classroom.

Year 5 explored the centre’s many interactive exhibits, and they particularly enjoyed the planetarium show, where the children journeyed through the night sky and explored the wonders of our Solar System and beyond. Sitting beneath the planetarium dome provided an immersive experience and gave the children a fascinating new perspective on the scale and beauty of space.

The excitement continued with a visit to one of the Observatory’s impressive historic telescope domes. Year 5 learned how telescopes are used to observe the night sky and were lucky enough to see the dome open around the telescope. The Observatory Science Centre is located on the former site of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, making it an especially fitting place to discover more about Britain’s history of astronomy.
